Open to everyone – from very beginners to those who need a refresh.
Start right at the beginning by learning the humble chain. From there you’ll build up and learn the basic stitches that almost every other crochet pattern relies on. Once you’ve got these, your crochet journey can really begin!
You’ll need a yarn and hook to suit its weight. If you’re a complete beginner, you might find aran or chunky yarn is easier to work with. Don’t forget your stitch markers!

The granny square is the ultimate multitasker – blankets, bags, cardies, you name it! You’ll learn to chain, master the treble crochet stitch (double crochet in US), change colour, and finish off neatly.
You’ll need double knit yarn in any colour and a 4mm hook. If you’re using Aran, you’ll need a 5mm hook. And, of course, some stitch markers.

Tunisian crochet has a lovely knit-like look and this class will get you started on it from scratch. You’ll learn how to cast on, work forward and return passes, and pick up the basic stitches. Just enough to take home and turn it into something wonderful.
You’ll need double knit yarn with either a 5.5mm or 6mm Tunisian crochet hook. If you’re using Aran, you’ll need a 7mm Tunisian crochet hook.

Not for absolute beginners. Best to have had some crochet experience for this one.
Learn to crochet in the round. We’ll start with a flat base and increase it out to size before turning the corner and working up the sides. In the end you’ll have something that can be put to endless use. A nice Christmas present for those friends who need a bit of extra storage!
You’ll need a yarn and a hook half a size smaller that the yarn’s usual match (for double knit, you’ll use a 3.5mm hook) as it gives the sides some rigidity. Stitch markers! You’ll need those too.

NOVEMBER

Open to everyone – newbies, not so newbies, and old hands.
A small, quick, and cheerful project to help you get into the festive spirit (and potentially form the basis of your newest Christmas decorations?) Go for a bit of glitter in your yarn and these bells look even more impressive.
You'll need double knit yarn in a colour of your choice and a 3.5mm hook.

A simple pattern that can be made into a garland or as individual stockings for your tree. You could even embroider them with initials for something a bit more personal. You’ll learn how to make a magic ring and pick up a handful of useful stitches.
You’ll need a selection of coloured DK yarns, a white DK yarn, and a 3.5mm hook. Stitch markers too.

Think of these as the granny squares more exciting cousin.We’ll learn how to make little 3D shapes to bring a blanket to life. They can also sit next to your regular granny squares for something a little different.
You’ll need double knit yarn in any colour and a 4mm hook. If you’re using Aran, you’ll need a 5mm hook. And, of course, some stitch markers.

Terms and conditions
Should you be unable to attend your course, please let us know as soon as possible.
A full refund, or transfer of booking to another course, will be offered if cancelling at least 14 days before the date of the course.
For cancellations less than 14 days before your course, we will retain 20% of the workshop cost, unless we are able to fill your place.
For cancellations within three days of a workshop, we are not able to offer any refund, unless we have someone on the waiting list who is able to take your place at short notice, then we would retain 20% of the workshop cost.
Workshop places are transferrable – so if you are unable to attend, you might like to consider sending a friend in your place – just let us know.
If SYC is unable to run a workshop or course, for whatever reason, we will give you as much notice as possible and try to accommodate your booking on another date. Where this is not possible, then we would, of course, offer you a full refund.
